Fall Calendar - Best of DC

Although DC is known for Spring, Fall is my favorite time. As the crisp bite of autumn begins to take the edge off the Summer heat, the locals crawl back out from their air-conditioned haze and wander to the many fall festivals and harvest events that punctuate each weekend. Although it is sometimes planned at the last minute, the Rosslyn Jazz Festival usually happens in mid-September. Here are a few of the fun things to look forward to:

September 8: Come Play Mahjong! — We'll learn Hong Kong style, as it’s the most versatile and makes it easier to transition to other styles later. Beginners are highly encouraged! Our group is growing... Join us!

September 9: Film Screening: Las Muertes Más Bellas del Mundo — What happens when people survive war, leave their homeland behind, and build a new life in a city that is itself constantly changing?

September 9: DC Punk Archive 2026 Summer Rooftop Shows — Join us for the 12th annual DC Punk Archive Rooftop Concert Series, presented by the Mount Pleasant and MLK Library Friends!

September 10: Snacks at the Library — join, hang out, and have a tasty snack

September 10: Sensory Thursdays — Come join us for an afternoon of hands-on sensory activities.

September 10: Fall Themed Crafternoon! — Come make your very own fall themed crafts at the library! The whole family is encouraged to participate!

September 10: Yarnworks Meetup — Join others at Marianne's Cafe at MLK to knit, crochet, chat it up, learn a new skill or all of the above.

September 10: Creatives Club — Meet like-minded folks and socialize while working on your own creative projects.

September 10: Palisades Writers' Workshop — A workshop for writers of fiction and nonfiction - writers at all levels of experience are welcome.

September 10: Fantom Comics Presents: Taiwanese Comics Showcase — An evening of cartoonist art from Taiwan with Fantom Comics

September 11: An Afternoon with Francis Fukuyama — Francis Fukuyama will discuss his new memoir with moderator Damir Marusik, talk about contemporary issues, and interact with the audience in a salon style conversation.

September 11: Friends of Tenley Library Book Sale — Join the Friends of Tenley Library to shop a range of donated titles with proceeds supporting the library.

September 12: Used Book Sale — Shop a wide range of donated titles -- there is something for everyone!

September 12: Mt. Pleasant Library Friends Merch and Book Sale — Every Saturday, the Mt. Pleasant Library Friends sell merch and used books at the Farmers' Market in Lamont Plaza. Their table is usually on Lamont St NW between 17th and Mt. Pleasant Sts NW.

September 12: Used Book Sale — Proceeds will benefit the Southwest Neighborhood Library.

September 12: Fix-It DC Clinic at Shepherd Park Library — Don't Toss It! Fix It! A FREE do-it-together event! A networking event around sustainability and repair

September 12: Midnight Rose — MidnightRose is a showcase of the multigenerational, multicultural writers in the Washington Metropolitan Region and beyond.

September 13: Embroidery Kit Giveaway — Looking to try a new fiber craft? The Labs is giving away kits that will include everything a person needs to start embroidery.
